Overuse of punctuation: You Have Been Dismissed

One exclamation point (!) at the end of a sentence has the same meaning as three (!!!). Just because you added a dozen exclamation points to your email doesn’t mean you are any more excited, pissed off or shocked then you would be with a single exclamation point.

The same rule applies to question marks. Overuse of a question mark doesn’t mean your any more curious then anyone else. This just makes you look like a curious shouting douche.

Usually the intent of multiple punctuation such an exclamation points or question marks is to get the reader to react and reply. This usually has a reverse effect on me making me want to punch a baby.

Most of the overused punctuation can be found in an anonymous note usually left from a roommate upset that you didn’t put your dishes away, an obsessive coworker who has to keep the thermostat at an unbearable temperature or from someone who doesn’t like the way you parked your car.

I’m have been found guilty of over using ellipsis (…) now and again in my IM’s or emails. However, its a valid use for an unfinished thought or when trailing off at an end of a sentence.

Overuse of punctuation you don’t motivate, question or emphasize anything. Your tactics are brash and overbearing and your point is completely lost. Step to the side overuse of punctuation and just let the sentence be. You are dismissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
