My gripe is not with all jaywalkers. We all have illegally crossed the street at one time or another, my issue is with the people who stop traffic to jaywalk. Is this some sort of power trip? Why are you putting your life in my hands?

JerkStore:

My gripe is not with all jaywalkers. We all have illegally crossed the street at one time or another, my issue is with the people who stop traffic to jaywalk. Is this some sort of power trip? Why are you putting your life in my hands?

Let me paint you a picture. You’re driving along the road enjoying the day. You’re listening to your favorite radio station, scrolling through songs on your iPod or maybe you’re on your phone (w/ a wireless headset) when some A-hole decides he/she need to cross the street RIGHT NOW. You slam on your brakes to avoid hitting them. This causes a few things to happen. 1. Everyone behind you hits their brakes nearly avoiding a multi car pile up. 2. Everything in your car goes flying to the front seat or 3. The person walking usually curses you as if you have a power to anticipate a potential jaywalking moment.

The point I’m trying to make is, we all understand that the pedestrian has the right of way. But why are you taking advantage of this? If there is traffic wait until its clear then cross. Forcing people to stop ends up hindering the flow of traffic and also causes a potential accident.

The new trend I’m seeing (especally on 4th St. in Long Beach) is what I call the “Stroller Factor“. Some jerk-o pushing a stroller usually with 2-3 children next to them will just dart out in between a few cars and cross the street. What the hell are you thinking? Take your kids to the cross walk and teach them how to cross properly. The laundry mat is 24 hours and will be still be open with the additional time you added using the crosswalk.

The worst case is when people are coming at you in all directions while driving. I call this “Paperboy Syndrome“. The name comes from the video game Paper Boy. This is when your driving home and people are jaywalking, dogs are running around w/ out leases, construction is going on, people are backing out of their driveways, kids are playing in the street and parked cars have their doors open. Its like a true test of patients, and driving skills.

People, do yourself a favor. Don’t rely on me to look out for your well being. Half the time I don’t see you until the last minute. The last thing I want to do is to hit and injure someone so please do the right thing and take the cross walk.

Jaywalkers, you can leave now… You Have Been Dismissed.
